Question: Although I am only in my early thirties, I have noticed the beginnings of some fine lines appearing mainly at the corners of my eyes and around my mouth. While I try to take care of my skin and use a good moisturizer, I think I should try something that is specifically for anti-aging. I don’t mind paying a lot for a product that really works and I’ve seen one called Glamoxy that supposedly uses snake venom! This sounds strange…..how can it help in the aging process?
Answer: There are a number of products that advertise the use of snake venom in their formulas although often, upon further inspection, they simply mimic the ‘freezing’ effect that venom produces. Glamoxy, by the skin care company Rodial, is an example of this and uses a substance called Syn-ake, an ingredient that the website describes as being ‘viper-inspired’.
This serum is designed to work much like Botox injections, freezing the facial muscles in an attempt to diminish visible lines and prevent future damage from occurring. Added ingredients such as Pomegranate Ellagic Tannin provides anti-oxidants, while FiFlow BTX helps deliver oxygen to skin cells. The overall effect is of a more radiant, smooth-textured surface that is also ‘plumped’ up by the use of Proturon.
Unfortunately there is little evidence to show that Syn-ake actually has a positive anti-aging effect, and the information on the company website is very limited. However, there has been a great deal of buzz about the product in the media, and is supposedly a favourite of many celebrities. For something as expensive as this – one bottle costs $162.50 – most consumers would want to see some clinical studies or at least some real-customer ‘before and after’ shots before purchasing.
If you do shop for an anti-wrinkle product in a health store, pharmacy or on the Internet, you’ll often find hundreds of different brands containing a confusing array of ingredients. You may be tempted to experiment with different products until you find one that works. But this approach may be expensive. More importantly, not all products contain the quality and quantity of necessary ingredients to positively promote long-term improvements on the appearance of wrinkles and an overall healthy complexion. That’s why you’ll need to do a little bit of research to find the best, most potent brand for your needs.
